How engagements work
Each engagement is a defined project with a clear outcome, agreed in writing before any work starts.
Project types
Defined, business-to-business projects that sit alongside our workforce services.
Rates and payment
You set your rate. We agree it in writing before the project starts, and you invoice as the work is delivered.
Employee or contractor?
Most people who work through Alto are our W-2 employees. Contractor engagements are the exception, for project work by people running their own business.

Shift work is always employment
Cashier, stocking, housekeeping, front-desk and other shift roles at a client site are always W-2 jobs. J-1 and H-2B participants are never contractors.
