Callout and shift coverage

A missing cashier on a Saturday costs more than a shift. Tell us the gap and we will tell you honestly what we can cover and when.

Why callouts hurt more than one shift

When a cashier or stocker calls out, the rest of the shift absorbs the work: longer lines, empty shelves and a manager pulled off the floor. Repeated callouts wear down the people who do show up, and that is how one gap turns into turnover.

Callout coverage gives you a number to call. We tell you plainly who we can send and when. Where we have placed associates with you before, we start with people who already know your store.

How coverage helps your store

  • A straight answer

We tell you what we can cover and when, so you can plan the shift instead of hoping.

  • Familiar faces first

Associates who have worked your store before are the first people we call.

  • No extra admin

Pay, timekeeping and paperwork for every covered shift are handled by Alto.

  • Protect your core team

Covering gaps stops your best people burning out on extra shifts.

How coverage works

  • Associates who already know your store, where we have placed people with you before
  • Cover for single shifts, short absences and turnover gaps
  • One number to call, answered by our local team during office hours
  • Alto handles pay and paperwork for every shift covered

Who uses callout coverage

  • Stores with frequent weekend or holiday callouts
  • Managers covering sudden resignations
  • Teams short during flu season or school breaks
  • Stores running extended holiday hours

How it works

  1. Step 1: Call or send the gap

The role, the shift and the location.

  2. Step 2: We confirm what we can cover

A straight answer on who we can send and when.

  3. Step 3: The associate reports in

Ready for the shift, with Alto handling the pay and the paperwork.

Why Alto HR

A workforce partner that has worked the floor

  • Built by store operators

Founded by former big-box retail operators. We know the store floor, not just recruiting.

  • Local, not remote

Our office is in Miramar Beach. We can meet you in person and walk your store.

  • Ready on day one

Associates are screened and prepared before their first shift, so your managers are not starting from zero.

  • We carry the paperwork

Alto associates are our W-2 employees. We run their pay, tax forms and employment records.

What a client says

Alto HR turned around our produce department staffing in under a week. The associates showed up trained, motivated, and ready to go. We haven’t had a call-out crisis since.

Common questions

Can we set up coverage before we need it?

Yes, and it works better that way. If we know your store, roles and standards in advance, we can move faster when a gap appears.

Is there a minimum shift length?

Minimums depend on the role and location. We agree them with you up front so there are no surprises when you call.

Can you cover a shift today?

Sometimes. It depends on the role, the time and who is available near you. Call us and we will give you a straight answer rather than a promise we cannot keep.

Who employs the associates?

Alto HR does. Associates are Alto employees on our payroll. You direct the day-to-day work at your site, and we handle pay, tax forms and employment paperwork.
