Temp-to-hire: see the work before you hire

Associates start as Alto employees. When you have seen how they work on your floor, you can hire them directly on the terms we agreed at the start.

Why temp-to-hire lowers hiring risk

An interview tells you how someone talks about work. A few weeks on your floor tells you how they actually work: whether they show up, learn quickly and get along with your team. Temp-to-hire gives you that evidence before you add anyone to your own payroll.

During the trial the associate is an Alto employee, so recruiting, onboarding, pay and paperwork stay with us. When you decide to hire, you make an offer on the conversion terms we agreed before they started.

What temp-to-hire gives you

  • See the work first

Judge reliability, pace and attitude on real shifts, not in an interview.

  • No surprise costs

Conversion terms are written down before anyone starts.

  • Less admin during the trial

Alto handles pay, tax forms and records until you hire.

  • Better long-term fits

People you have already seen at work are more likely to stay.

Temp-to-hire is a good fit when

  • You want to test a new role before committing
  • You are hiring several permanent associates at once
  • You want to see leads and supervisors in action first
  • Turnover in a role has been high

How it works

  1. Step 1: Agree the roles and terms

Roles, pay, the trial period and conversion terms, written down before anyone starts.

  2. Step 2: Associates work as Alto employees

We handle pay and paperwork while you see the work first-hand.

  3. Step 3: Hire the people you want

When the period ends, you offer the associate a job on your own payroll.

Why Alto HR

A workforce partner that has worked the floor

  • Built by store operators

Founded by former big-box retail operators. We know the store floor, not just recruiting.

  • Local, not remote

Our office is in Miramar Beach. We can meet you in person and walk your store.

  • Ready on day one

Associates are screened and prepared before their first shift, so your managers are not starting from zero.

  • We carry the paperwork

Alto associates are our W-2 employees. We run their pay, tax forms and employment records.

What a client says

The team at Alto HR understands retail. They’ve worked the floor themselves. That shows in every associate they send us: no learning curve, just results from day one.

Common questions

How long is the trial period?

You choose, and we agree it in writing before the associate starts. Many employers want a few weeks of real shifts before deciding.

Can the associate turn down the offer?

Yes. The decision is theirs as well as yours, and we talk to both sides so there are no surprises.

What does conversion cost?

Conversion terms are set in your agreement before anyone starts, so there are no surprises. Ask for a quote and we will lay them out.

Who employs the associates?

Alto HR does. Associates are Alto employees on our payroll. You direct the day-to-day work at your site, and we handle pay, tax forms and employment paperwork.
